The faculty and staff of Stanford's Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law, as well as the undersigned alumni of the Draper Hills Summer Fellows Program, wish to protest the completely unjustified arrest and pending trial of the researcher Tatiana Kouzina on June 28 by Belarusian authorities. Ms. Kouzina now faces unspecified criminal charges that could lead to her extended detention. »

On 28 June 2021, at approximately 10 pm, Belarusian expert and researcher Tatiana Kouzina was detained at passport control of the Minsk National Airport while departing for a short trip to Tbilisi, Georgia. Her whereabouts were unknown for several hours. Next morning, an investigative officer informed Tatiana Kouzina's family that she was held at the Okrestina temporary detention facility in Minsk as a suspect in a criminal investigation. Ms Kouzina's lawyer was able to meet her on 29 June 2021.  »

The SYMPA/BIPART project team strongly condemns the detention of Tatiana Kouzina, one of the project’s cofounders and an expert in the field of civil society and public administration. Tatiana Kouzina was detained last night (28 June 2021) by unidentified persons while going through passport control at the Minsk-2 airport. Her family did not know her whereabouts throughout the whole night. Tatiana Kouzina is currently at the Akrestina isolation centre in Minsk. Her lawyer was allowed to see her today. »
